Using the calculators
Is Fuel Cost Calculator free to use?
Yes. The calculators are available without creating an account or paying a fee.
Which vehicles can I calculate costs for?
The main calculator supports gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles. Available efficiency units include MPG, L/100 km, km/L, miles per kWh, and kWh per 100 miles or kilometers.
Can I use miles and kilometers?
Yes. Miles are the default for the US market, and you can switch to kilometers. The calculator converts connected distance and efficiency units where supported.
Can I calculate a round trip?
Yes. Enter the one-way distance and enable the round-trip option. Do not enable it when the distance you entered already includes both directions.
Can I split the cost between passengers?
Yes. Turn on the split option and enter the total number of people paying, including the driver when the driver is contributing a share.
Can I add tolls, parking, or other costs?
Yes. Additional shared driving expenses can be added to the fuel or charging cost before the total is divided.
Accuracy and inputs
How accurate are the results?
The results are estimates based on the values you provide. Real costs can differ because of traffic, speed, weather, hills, cargo, tire pressure, driving style, changing prices, and charging losses.
Where can I find my vehicle's fuel economy?
Check the vehicle dashboard, owner's manual, manufacturer specifications, or an official fuel-economy source. For a more realistic result, use efficiency measured from recent driving in similar conditions.
Does the website provide live fuel or electricity prices?
Not currently. Enter the current local price from a fuel station, electricity bill, charging network, or another source you trust.
What is the difference between US MPG and UK MPG?
US MPG uses a 3.785-liter US gallon. UK MPG uses a 4.54609-liter imperial gallon. Select the unit that matches the source of your vehicle data.
Should I include EV charging losses?
Include a charging-loss estimate when you want to approximate electricity drawn from the charger rather than energy delivered to the battery. Leave it at zero when you only want battery-use cost.
Why is my actual cost higher than the estimate?
Your real efficiency may be lower than the value entered, the price may have changed, or the trip may include conditions such as congestion, cold starts, wind, hills, heavy cargo, or climate-control use.
Privacy, sharing, and support
Do I need an account?
No. You can use the calculators without registering.
Are my calculator inputs saved?
Core calculations run in your browser. Some preferences may be stored locally on your device, and shareable calculator settings can appear in the page URL. See the Privacy Policy for details.
What happens when I use the Share button?
The website may create a URL containing calculator settings so another person can reopen a similar calculation. Review the URL before sharing it, especially on a shared or public device.
Does the website collect analytics?
The website may use analytics and technical logs to understand usage, diagnose errors, and improve performance. Details are explained in the Privacy Policy.
Can I use a result for taxes or reimbursement?
The calculators provide general estimates and are not tax, legal, accounting, or financial advice. Verify current official rates and requirements before submitting a claim.
How do I report an error or request a feature?
Email [email protected] or use the Contact page. Include the page URL, inputs, units, and the result you expected.
